iii would say this is more refined than fancybidet/natalie’s style? not that it’s better, i’m not trying to say one is better than the other, but there’s an element of realism here not present in natalie’s work so i dont know how you thought this was natalie’s…?
Exactly, it seems like her exact style but a bit more detailed/realistic, maybe just like a new project because Natalie’s range of styles is extensive.
I mean, look at the banners, the text, the circles on the cheeks.. There’s more than a few passing similarities.
I know this has been brought to Natalie’s attention before and she’s got her own shit to say about it so I’m not saying anymore, so I’ll leave it at that but I think it’s really interesting how similar it is.
okay but in all seriousness it’s really rude to stroll into the op’s post with “HMMMMM PLAGIARISM!” i’m sorry to put it this way, but the similarities you’re noticing are kind of generic ones. natalie didnt invent those elements; they’ve been around for a long while. the op was probably inspired by natalie but that does not constitute art theft. ART THEFT constitutes art theft.
the op uses more realistic anatomy and proportion, finer lines in delicate colors, and there’s much more detail, especially in the hair and flowers. natalie, on the other hand, likes to use a rather cartoony style with purposefully “uglier” features and a hard black outline.
TBH I don’t care much about being rude in regards to this. I checked the rest of her art tag it was even MORE similar than this. You’re the only one saying straight-up art theft, I’m just saying it’s making me uncomfortable on some level, and I’ve seen Natalie saying it makes her uncomfortable too. If you don’t see a problem, cool, it’s not a problem for you, but Natalie is a poor, disabled woman who’s art is her job so I think it’s better to be over-cautious, which is maybe what I’m doing, but I know that other people have mistaken the OP’s work for Natalie’s and then felt uncomfortable at the similarities so it’s probs somthing worth talking about.
okay, well as an artist, i care. i give a fuck. i’m sorry but natalie doesn’t own “different font styles” or cheek blush or banners!! she did not copyright those things! her style is part of a larger trend that she did not invent, though she certainly put her own twist on it. this is akin to people accusing gingerhaze of ripping off kate beaton.
in fact, i looked in the op’s art tag, and you know what i found? variation. lots of it. not unlike in my own art, or the art of any active artist developing their style! i got some other actual artists to look at this post and o’brien’s art tag, and they agree. there’s also the fact that you chose this art, which is the least like natalie’s style, to drop your HMM COPYCAT!! HMMM commentary onto. there is no way anyone could actually mistake this for natalie’s art:
the way you handled this was, to say the least, poor. if natalie has a problem with mx. o’brien’s art, let her do the talking instead of dogpiling this art post.

I don’t know why the fuck you’re taking this personally when it’s not about you. It’s not your art and if you don’t think there’s a problem then what’s the point in getting involved with people who do think there’s a problem??
Oh and don’t tell me what I did or didn’t do. When I first saw this, it looked like a new spin Natalie was doing, as she often does, especially as there were so many other similar elements, which many other people have agreed with me on (including “ACTUAL ARTISTS” in case my years at art school don’t count for some arbitrary reason). I see multiple similar elements in this and in lots of their other stuff. The lettering in particular is pretty much identical, and although that picture of Natalie’s isn’t that similar to the OP’s, there’s a lot of stuff that is.
I’m not playing this game anymore. I’m not commenting on this again until I’ve heard from Natalie. There’s more than enough people out there who agree with me as seen in the reblogs and messages I’ve got.
I wish self-esteem campaigns would focus less on “everyone is beautiful” and more on “who the fuck cares if you are beautiful or not”
